Official wants tobacco-free parks

 Mike Crespan, town health director, has approached the New Milford Parks & Recreation Commission about having tobacco-free areas in town parks.

The initiative is part of a Community Transformation Grant through the Torrington Health District, Crespan said.

He has asked Parks & Recreation to consider appropriate parks, such as those with children's playground areas like Young's Field and Lynn Deming Park at Candlewood Lake.

The Parks & Recreation Commission tabled a discussion of the initiative at its April 8 meeting.
